Experiment: Number Beauty
I'm performing a simple informal experiment to see whether there exists a number 'sense' in everyone that derives from how the human mind works. To take part, simply post your response to the following question (take only a few seconds to answer as I'm most interested in instinctive reactions):
Which of the two numbers is more 'beautiful': 39 or 51?
Which of the two numbers is more 'beautiful': 39 or 51?

clearly 39 :)
39
i think 39 is more beautiful.
i mean i can explain why models are more beautiful than average women...there is always that quality about people that is hard to express though.
39, for shape; for reduction, 3+9 = 12=1+2=3
39. Curves & symmetry in the 3.
Are concerned with the drawn form of the numbers or the number itself? You could try replacing the numbers with them wrote as Roman Numerals and see what the response is...
I instinctively thought 39 as well. Why is that?
I have 3 for you. =)
I myself say 51 as well as my 7 yr old w/ ASD. My middle boy said 39. So 2 for 51, and 1 for 39.
It felt like a simple instinct. 39 most definitely.
equally beautiful
39
For me it is 39, because it is 3x13, and I'd think that for you it is 51, because it is prime.
39
39 for me.
39. It seems more soft, calming and female. 51 feels "rough around the edges" and not balanced.
Am I the only one who thought 51?
51 is prime and that makes it more special and beauty than 39.
Out of the majority it seems, but 51 definitely grabs me.
39, but not sure why. The curves, I guess.
My feeling... 39
51
My gut reaction is that I like 51 more, but I don't know why.
And to those who said that 51 is prime, remember that 51/3 = 17, and is therefore composite!
I can see how the digits of 39 themselves (or, their specific representation as Arabic numerals) might appeal to some people, but the actual number/quantity of 51 appeals to me more.
39 because it's bumpy.
39 is more beautiful because of the curves, rather than straight lines.
51
there's beauty in 'them there' curves ... 39 of course.
:-)
51.

Blue is a nicer colour than yellow.
51
but I don't know why...
I'm doing this purely as a number, I'm not thinking about how it is written: 51 just seems more beautiful, unique and untouchable. 39 is too plain.
39
51
I think 51 (don't know why just an instant thought)
51
39 seems warmer, and thus more beautiful to me.
39 for symmetry
39
39. I'm partial to nines and most other perfect squares.
51 is much more beautiful than 39. There is no doubt about it.
I thought 51 was more beautiful.
51
39 becouse the three and the nine have a simmular round shape!
Stephanie from Holland ;-)
While I'd rather sit by 39 on a long bus ride, I can't say 51 doesn't have its own beauty. In short, all numbers are beautiful.
39 is more beautiful, for my girlfriend opposite though :)
51 definately (looks a bit red and white). 39 is too round and bloated and yellow... (and I simply don't like the number 3)
39 it's no 42 but pretty nice
I like 39. It's round and puffy.
Bonjour,
Je n'arrive pas à décider si je trouve 39 ou 51 plus beau, mais 51 me donne plus froid et 39 me parrait plus complexe et plus rugeux.
I say 51 is more "beautiful"
as in more calming
39 is too loud and a tad "ugly"
2 51's here. Although my daughter said 39 has a nice roundness to it.
39 is more beautiful to me for some reason. Maybe because is close to a number ending in 0, giving a sense of almost being there?

39 unsettles me. It feels incomplete, and untrustworthy. 51 feels genuine.
51 is more beautiful because (1) the numbers have more open shapes while 39 almost makes a circle and is therefore a closed (selfish) shape; (2) To me, 3 is red and 9 is orange, while 5 is light green and 1 is grey. Light green and grey are more attractive than red and orange.
I thought 39 too. Mmm, interesting.
39
39 is more beautiful, perhaps because it resembles a flower. Also, we associate curves with our mothers and they make us feel more secure, perhaps, than aggressive pointy numbers such as your 51.

I like the purity of 51... don't know why.
