In this lesson we'll be looking at plural nouns. Click the headphones icon next to each word to hear a recording of it. There are exercises at the end of the lesson to help you practise what you've learnt.
A plural noun refers to more than one of something (boys, mice, children). Forming the plural in Spanish is very simple, much more so than in English.
If the noun ends in a vowel, add 's':
- Chica (girl) - chicas (girls)

- Frase (sentence) - frases (sentences)

- Amigo (friend) - amigos (friends)

If the noun ends in a consonant, add 'es':
- Reloj (watch/clock) - relojes (watches/clocks)

- Amanecer (sunrise) - amaneceres (sunrises)

- Carnet (ID card) - carnetes (ID cards)

For the few nouns that end in -z, the z changes to a c when plural:
- Actriz (actress) - actrices (actresses)

- Lpiz (pencil) - lpices (pencils)

- Vez (time, occasion) - veces (times, occasions)

Masculine plural nouns use 'los' for 'the':
- El chico (the boy) - los chicos (the boys)

- El padre (the father) - los padres (the fathers)

Feminine plural nouns use 'las' for 'the':
- La chica (the girl) - las chicas (the girls)

- La madre (the mother) - las madres (the mothers)
