Pi is the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter and begins 3.141592653.
On March 14th 2004 (3/14 in US notation - known as International Pi Day) Daniel set a new British and European record when he recited the number pi from memory to 22,514 decimal places in a time of 5 hours, 9 minutes.
The event was organised by and in aid of the National Society for Epilepsy and took place at Oxford's Museum of the History of Science.
The record attracted widespread media interest and Daniel was interviewed for articles and radio programmes from all over the world.
David Josephs, director for the NSE, released the following statement in a press release following the event:
This is a fantastic achievement. Daniel's success gives out a very positive message about epilepsy - the condition need not affect someone's ability to use their brain nor stop them aspiring to great achievement.
